The BuddyGrapher’s Down Jacket was created with the idea of being a dependable winter partner for Mirai’s (and your doll’s) photography life.
みらいちゃんのライフワークでもある写真撮影の真冬の相棒アイテムをメインコンセプトに、この BuddyGrapher’s Down Jacket は誕生しました。
The first reason for making this jacket was a request from a Smart Doll user who requested a down jacket. I had made and sold down jackets in the past, but since I received this request, I wanted to try a new style this time.
制作の最初のきっかけは、スマートドールユーザーのフォロワーさんからいただいたダウンジャケット制作のリクエストでした。以前にもダウンジャケットを制作販売したことがありましたが、せっかくリクエストをいただいたので、今回は以前とは違うテイストのダウンジャケットを作ろうと考えました。
What came to mind was a down jacket I worked on in the early 2000s, when I was a pattern maker at an outdoor apparel company. It had a simple, classic design and very good warmth. I personally liked it a lot and used it for many winters.
そこで閃いたのが、私がアウトドアウェアメーカーにパタンナーとして勤務していた2,000年初頭に担当したダウンジャケットです。そのダウンジャケットは、ベーシックなデザインと抜群の保温性から、私自身も真冬の相棒として長年愛用していました。
This BuddyGrapher’s Down Jacket was made by bringing together three things: a request from users, a design I had always liked, and my wish for Mirai and her friends to have a reliable jacket for winter days.
この BuddyGrapher’s Down Jacket はユーザーさんからのリクエストが発端となり、私自身も気に入っていたクラシカルデザインをドールサイズにアレンジし、みらいちゃん達の真冬の相棒として着られるように、三つの希望をシンクロさせたコンセプトで生み出されました。
■Design Inspiration
The design theme is “Neo-Classic.”
デザインテーマはネオクラシック。
We combined the classic square silhouette and details from the early 2000s with modern, lightweight, and water-repellent fabrics.
2,000年初頭のクラシカルなスクエアシルエットとディテールをベースに、現代の軽量撥水素材を融合させました。
■About the Details
Front Opening | 前開き
The front opening uses a flap and snap buttons.
前開きはフラップにスナップボタン仕様。
This style was often seen on down jackets in the early 2000s. I chose snap buttons because I like the classic and casual look.
In real jackets, there is usually a zipper under the flap, but in doll size, the width and stiffness of the zipper would make the front look too rigid. For that reason, the zipper is omitted.
2,000年代初頭のダウンジャケットに多く見られた仕様で、クラシカルでカジュアルな雰囲気が好きでこのスナップボタン仕様を採用しました。リアルではフラップの下はファスナー仕様ですが、ドールサイズで再現するとファスナーの幅と硬さが邪魔をしてパキッとなりすぎてしまうため、ファスナーは省略しています。
Front Pockets | 前ポケット
The front pockets have a 2-way design, allowing access from the side or the top.
前ポケットは横と上から物が入る2way仕様。
On a real down jacket, the side opening acts as a hand warmer. For the doll size, due to design balance, the default doll hand just fits inside.
リアルなダウンジャケットでは横開きがハンドウォーマーの役割を果たしますが、ドールサイズではデザインバランスの都合上、デフォルトハンドがギリギリ入るサイズ感です。
Small items can be put into the pocket from the top by lifting the flap.
上開きはフラップをめくると物を入れることができます。
Hood | フード
Girls with short hair can wear the hood.
フードはショートヘアウィッグなら被ることができます。
It is also detachable with snap buttons.
フードはスナップボタンで脱着できます。
Slit for Stand | スタンド用スリット
There is a slit on the back for the Smart Doll stand.
後ろ身頃にはスマートドールのスタンド用スリットを設けています。
Styling Tips | 着用アレンジ
You can close all the front buttons up to the collar.
前ボタンは衿まで全て閉めることができます。
Closing only the lower two buttons also gives a nice relaxed look.
下の2つのボタンだけ閉めた着方も、かっこいかなと思います。
Closing the mouth guard gives a very cozy look.
フードのマウスガードを閉めると暖かそうな感じになります。
My personal preference is to wear it fully open to enjoy winter layering.
私個人の好みですが、前をフルオープンにして、冬ならではの重ね着スタイルを楽しむのが好きです。

光が差し込んで粉雪がキラキラ輝く白い森、氷に覆われた青い湖、銀世界にそびえるスノーモンスター、凍りついた大気に輝くダイヤモンドダスト、真っ白に染められた藁葺き屋根が並ぶ旧街道、さてさて、どこに出かけましょうか。

As I mentioned in the main text, the biggest reason for creating this jacket was a request from Smart Doll users, along with my long-held desire to make a classic down jacket again.
The roots of this jacket lie in a real-size down jacket I made and cherished for years while working as a patternmaker at an outdoor apparel manufacturer (in the early 2000s). It excelled in high durability, warmth, and water resistance, making it a truly reliable companion for winter outings.
I wanted Mirai and others to enjoy it as a dependable winter companion, carrying with it the attachment and knowledge I gained from making the original jacket.
The real down jacket I made back then used a special fabric. It offered strength, durability, breathability, and waterproofing, but compared to modern fabrics, it was heavy and stiff. While it looked rugged and had a great outdoor gear aesthetic, it was simply too rigid to use for a doll-sized jacket. Therefore, I selected a modern, lightweight, and soft fabric, optimized specifically for doll proportions.
This BuddyGrapher’s Down Jacket was born from the perfect timing of user requests syncing with the item I personally wanted to create.
【The Battle with the Fluff】
To achieve the authentic, fluffy texture unique to down jackets, we worked day after day creating sample parts until we arrived at the optimal amount of padding. (Honestly, I don’t want to do this task again anytime soon…)

本文にも書きましたが、このダウンジャケットを作るきっかけの一番の理由はスマートドールユーザーさんからのリクエストでした。そして、私自身がクラシカルなダウンジャケットを作りたかったからです。
このジャケットのルーツは、私がアウトドアウェアメーカーでパタンナーとして勤務していた頃（2000年代初頭）に制作し、長年愛用していたリアルサイズのダウンジャケットにあります。高い強度・暖かさ・防水性に優れ、冬の外出時にとても頼れる相棒でした。
その愛着と制作知識をみらいちゃん達にも真冬の頼れる相棒として着てほしかったのです。
当時作ったリアルダウンジャケットには特殊な生地を使っていました。強度と耐久性があり透湿・防水性もある生地でしたが、現代の生地と比べると重量は重く硬い生地でした。見た目は丈夫でアウトドアギアとしての雰囲気も良かったのですが、さすがにドールサイズで同じ生地を使用するには硬すぎるため、生地は現代の軽量で柔らかいものを選び、ドールサイズに最適化しました。
ユーザーさんからのリクエストと私自身の作りたかったアイテムがタイミングよくシンクロして生み出されたのが、このBuddyGrapher’s Down Jacketです。
【試練のつぶやき】
ダウンジャケット特有のリアルなモコモコ感を出すために来る日も来る日もパーツサンプルを作り続け最適な粒綿量にたどり着きました。（この作業はしばらくやりたくないのが正直なところです…）
